Vape Hardware Starter Guide in Canada: Pod Kits, Batteries, Coils and What to Buy First

For adult buyers moving beyond disposables: how refillable pod kits work, what the verified specs mean on four kits we carry, and what else a complete starter setup needs in Toronto.

Disposables are the simplest format we sell, but they are not the only starting point. A refillable hardware kit — a rechargeable device, a refillable pod, and a bottle of e-liquid bought separately — gives an adult vaper in Toronto a reusable device and a wider choice of flavours and nicotine strengths. This guide explains a starter setup, using only kits we actually carry.

What a starter kit includes — and what it does not

A starter kit normally contains the device itself, with its built-in battery, one or two pods or a tank, and a charging cable. E-liquid is almost always sold separately, and that matters for budgeting: a kit without a bottle of e-liquid is not ready to use. Replacement pods or coils are also separate, ongoing purchases. Pods with an integrated coil are replaced whole when flavour drops off; tank systems use replaceable coils. A complete setup is therefore four items: the kit, e-liquid, a spare pod or pack of coils, and the correct charging cable.

Verified specifications: four pod kits on our shelves

  • UWELL Caliburn G4 Mini: 1,100 mAh built-in battery, up to 35W output, draw-activated, USB Type-C charging, adjustable airflow, Caliburn GPP pods. Our listing is the CRC version; see the Caliburn G4 Mini product page for current options.
  • Vaporesso XROS 4: 1,000 mAh built-in battery, 2 mL CRC pod capacity, USB Type-C charging, COREX 2.0 mesh coil pods, three output modes and adjustable airflow. It is compatible across the XROS replacement pod range.
  • Geekvape Sonder Q: 1,000 mAh built-in battery, 5–20W automatic output set by pod resistance, 2 mL Geekvape Q pods, draw-activated, USB Type-C charging and adjustable airflow.
  • UWELL Caliburn G3: 900 mAh built-in battery, up to 25W output, draw or button activation, USB Type-C charging, and Caliburn G3 pods in 0.6 ohm and 0.9 ohm options listed for the kit.

These four are all in our starter kit category, within the wider hardware category. Battery capacity indicates run time between charges, not vapour production; wattage is maximum output, set automatically from the pod on automatic kits; pod capacity is e-liquid volume per fill.

Batteries, charging and coils

Most starter pod kits have a built-in battery charged by USB Type-C, as the four kits above do. Larger mod kits are different: some use replaceable 18650 cells, sold separately. We carry, for example, an Aspire 18650 battery listed at 2,900 mAh and 20A. With replaceable cells, follow the device manual, keep paired cells together, and replace a damaged wrap or dented cell. Compatibility is specific: XROS pods fit XROS devices, Q pods fit the Sonder Q and other Q-series devices, and G3 and GPP pods are separate Caliburn lines. Staff can check a device against a pod pack before purchase.

Choosing e-liquid and flavours

Hardware separates the device choice from the flavour choice. Once a refillable kit is selected, any suitable bottled e-liquid in our e-liquids range can be used, from tobacco and mint profiles to fruit blends, subject to the pod type. That is the main practical difference from a disposable or a pre-filled closed pod: flavour is not fixed to the device. Availability of individual flavours varies, so check the e-liquid listings or ask in store for the current range rather than assuming a flavour seen elsewhere is stocked here.

Nicotine information

Bottled e-liquids and pre-filled pods sold in Canada are subject to the federal cap of 20 mg/mL on nicotine concentration. Starter kits themselves do not contain nicotine; the strength is determined by the e-liquid or pod the buyer selects, and the label on that bottle or pack is the figure to read. Options below the cap are also listed on our shelves, including lower-strength and freebase e-liquids for larger devices. Vaping products contain nicotine, which is highly addictive, when nicotine e-liquid is used. In Ontario, these products are for adults aged 19 and older.

Who a starter kit suits

A refillable pod kit suits an adult vaper who wants a reusable device and a choice of bottled flavours, and who is comfortable refilling and replacing pods. A larger mod and tank kit suits a buyer who wants replaceable coils, a separate tank and, on some models, replaceable batteries — with more parts to maintain. A buyer who wants no refilling or coil changes is better matched to disposables or closed pod systems. Start with the four-item setup above and add spares later.
