How the Smartcore induction system works
With blade-based heated tobacco systems, a heating blade slides into the tobacco plug, so residue builds up on the blade and the device needs regular cleaning. TEREA takes the blade out of the device entirely. The metal heating element is built into each stick, and the ILUMA holder's induction coil heats that element electromagnetically from the inside of the tobacco.
This is also why the compatibility boundary is absolute rather than advisory: a TEREA stick has nothing for a blade device to heat with, and a HEETS stick has no induction element for an ILUMA device to couple with. If you own an older blade-generation IQOS, the device and the sticks need to be upgraded together.

TEREA sticks contain real tobacco and therefore contain nicotine, which is addictive. IQOS states that all TEREA variants carry the same nicotine content — the flavour choice changes the taste profile, not the nicotine level.
